If you want to be successful in building a brand on social media, you need to spend time on it EVERY SINGLE DAY. Yes, every day. The only exceptions are if you’re going on vacation and let your audience know, sickness, or if you want to take one day off (like Sunday). But on a normal, non-vacation, “work” day (Monday through Friday), spending the time to build your brand on social media is essential if you want to be successful.
CONSISTENCY IS KEY!
“Every day? Really? But I don’t have time!” I hear this all the time. Just like any other business activity, you have to make time. And it might not be as much time as you think. Sadly, I can’t give you one number for how much time it will take because how much time you spend each day depends on a lot of things (I’ll share more on that in another blog post). One of those things is how often you need to post. But that depends on the platform you’re using, your industry, and your goals for being on social media.
So what are the 3 things you must do every day for social media success?
1. Create content.
This can be as simple as writing a caption for an Instagram post, writing text for a Facebook post, or taking pictures to post. The point is that you need to spend time creating content every. single. day. Being successful on social media requires a lot of content, and you may not have time every day to create content before you post.
Even more important, you should be planning your content strategy ahead of time so there’s a rhyme and reason to your content so planning out and creating content in batches is often the most effective and efficient way to produce quality content. Plus, the more consistently you create content, the easier it gets and the faster you usually get at doing it!
2. Post.
Yes, you should post every day. This doesn’t mean post on every platform every day, but you should be posting somewhere at least once a day. For example, if you are using Instagram and Facebook to build your brand, you NEED to be using Instagram Stories every day. However, you might not need to post on your Instagram feed or Facebook page every day. But posting somewhere every day keeps you in front of your audience, boosts your ranking in the algorithm, and makes it a habit for you.
3. Engage.
This is one thing many people and brands miss, and it might be one of the biggest reasons they’re not successful on social media! Social media is social! So get on those platforms, respond to your DMs and comments EVERY DAY, and comment on and share on others’ posts, and reply to their stories with a DM. Engaging with your audience and with others you want in your audience helps you build a community, and having a community is going to make your social media presence much more successful and influential!
If you create content, post, and engage on your social media every day, you will be on your way to social media success! Spending time on social media every day will get you in the habit of being active and present on your chosen platform(s). Plus, it is one of the most important ways you can grow your followers and build your community. If you don’t schedule time for social media every day, you will miss a day or two, and then three or four, and so on. Before you know it, a whole week will go by without your audience hearing from you. Speaking of scheduling, you will be most likely to post content consistently, if you create a plan and schedule for your content. Reach out to me if you need help with this!
Content creation and posting strategies are a topic to discuss in another article, so stay tuned. But a quick note on content: If you can’t create content right away, comment on other people’s content to start building community and creating a mini version of content. Also, one easy way to always have content is to document, don’t create! Document your life, your business, your clients, etc.
What is one action step you can take today to work towards social media success?
Decide how much time can you realistically spend each day creating content, posting on your social media platforms and engaging with your followers. Then put that time in your schedule/calendar!
